Rita Wilson’s Career Journey as an Artist

Margarita Ibrahimoff as her birth name was born as an American on October 26, 1956, in Los Angeles but she has Greek and Bulgarian descent from her mother and father’s side. But her parents moved and settled down in America long before her birth and became American citizens.

Rita Wilson as a young budding actress has her first role as a guest appearance in the sitcom series The Brandy Bunch in 1972 and in another comedy series called M*A*S*H in 1982. In another of her television series Bosom Buddies, she appeared in a supporting role alongside her future husband Tom Hanks aired from 1980 to 1984. She appeared as the main cast in the mini-series From The Earth To The Moon as Susan Borman.

She is best known for her roles in many popular movies like Now And Then 1995, Jingle All The Way 1996, Runaway Bride 1999, The Bonfire Of The Vanities 1990, Sleepless In Seattle 1993, and others.

Apart from being an actress she has gained recognition for being a movie producer and has been a part of various well-known movies like My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2002, which is considered one of the most successful and highest-grossing romantic comedies of all time.

She has also co-produced and starred in the sequel of the movie series My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which was released in 2016. Another of her produced works is Mama Mia! 2008, which also has a sequel, Mama Mia! Here We Go Again was released in 2018.

She also has a major history in theatrical play as she made her debut with her role of Roxie Hart in The revival of Chicago in 2006 in Broadway theater. Her other notable works include Fish in the Dark broadway show of 2015, Love, Loss, and What I Wore, and Dinner With Friends.

Wilson in Her Music Career

Wilson has always been interested in music and singing but she hasn’t properly taken the initiative in it until 2012 when she released her debut album AM/FM. The album consists of classical music from the 1960s and 70s and she performed and collaborated on the songs with many artists namely Jimmy Webb, Chris Cornell, Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, and others.

In 2016 she released her second album, Rita Wilson, where she co-wrote all the songs along with different artists to name a few like Dan Wilson, Kara Dioguardi, Jason Reeves, Richard Marx, and many more. She also joined a tour with her long-time favorite band Chicago to support the release of her album.

She then released her third album Bigger Picture in 2018 and two of the songs from the album are used in two different movies Simple Wedding and Emmett.

Her fourth album Halfway To Home was released in 2019, where the song Throw Me a Party is based on her breast cancer journey and her survival from it.

What’s About Rita Wilson Today?

Rita Wilson 65, has been a very passionate person who just doesn’t settle for one thing but loves to discover and grow her talents more. Recently she has been seen in 1883, an American drama series in the episode Boring the devil of 2022 as Carolyn, which is the prequel to the series Yellowstone.

She has appeared as a guest role in the episode alongside her longtime bestie Faith Hill, who played the role of Margaret Dutton. She played the role of a storekeeper who joined Dutton to relax with some whiskey.

Apart from this, she will be busy with her upcoming concerts for her albums taking place between May to June 2022. She recently showed her excitement for her concert and wrote on her Instagram,

Rita Wilson’s Personal Life

Rita Wilson married Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks in 1988 and the couple has two children together Chet Hanks and Truman Hanks, apart from her sons she also has two stepchildren Colin and Elizabeth Hanks from Hanks’s previous marriage. The couple is known as one of the all-time favorite couples of Hollywood, who has been going strong in their married life.

The couple celebrated their 34th marriage ceremony in May 2022 as we can see an Instagram post from Wilson, with a wedding picture of her and Tom Hanks with the caption “34th. 1988- 2022.”

Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and she went for a bilateral surgery for her breast cancer in April 2015. This also caused her to take a break from her Broadway show Fish in the Dark but after her recovery, she returned back to the stage.             

She and her husband have been serving as co-chairs of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund for over 20 years now. She is also known for her charitable works with organizations like the USC Shoah Foundation and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
